More - If you can bear it:

I am a mechanical engineer by trade and work for a company which develops and makes load cells - the heart of modern electronic scales.

My original speciality was material science (even got a PhD to prove it) but I began to develop an interest in weighing and scientific instruments quite some time ago.

Bought my first balance in about 1999 (a Stanton!), tried to find out more about the maker, joined ISASC (E) in the process and have never looked back since.

Through my own reseaches and with the help of a fellow collector and ISASC member I've been able to unearth a lot about SI (including lots of balances and weights which now form the backbone of my collection).

I now live in Wales (UK) near Cardiff.
