Stanton Redcroft Ltd
The information on S-R Ltd is even more sketchy than on SI.
1965 | The company started when Stanton Instruments, makers of lovely chemical balances (formed by STANley and HarringTON) were joined by John REDfern and Rob WhitCROFT to make a huge (by today's standards) thermobalance. There is one in the Science Museum in London, as well as a few still going in universities. They were built like tanks. The furnace was so heavy that it was raised with the help of a counterweight formed by the power transformer. |
| They were a small innovative company who competed well with the big boys, especially overseas. Their demise is a salutary illustration of what happens when the money-men gain control, rather than people who are interested in, and care about, what they make. |
1966 | Commercial DTA (differential thermo analysis) introduced. |
1968, November | Entire group of Stanton companies sold to Avery Ltd. |
1983 | Stanton-Redcroft became part of Thermal Scientific plc. |
I am indebted to Steve Warrington and Barry Oliver for providing and compiling much of the above information.
